Dr. Salonga is a registered guidance counselor, a registered psychologist and a mental health advocate. She is a graduate studies professor of the Centro Escolar University since 2004 and currently a special Professorial lecturer in MA/PhD Psychology at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. Dr. Salonga spearheaded the offering of MS Guidance & Counseling in CEU in response to the enactment of RA 9258, the law that regulates the practice of Guidance & Counseling in the Philippines. As one of the board of directors of the Philippine Guidance & Counseling Association at that time, she was tasked to inform and orient guidance counselors and guidance designates from all over the Philippines on the implementation and provisions of the law.
Dr. Salonga served as Head of the CEU Guidance & Counseling Department for twenty- three years (23). She is currently the Executive Director of the Mendiola Consortium (CEU, SBU, CHSM, LCCM, SJCS) since 1994 and is the president of the St. Mary’s Academy of Caloocan City Alumni Association since 2016. Not to forget, she also became one of the Board of Directors of the CEU Alumni Association (AFI) and its Treasurer for 2 years. Dr. Salonga was also a featured psychologist in “Personalan” tv show on GMA News TV Channel 11 hosted by Jean Garcia and Jolina Magdangal and had often been invited as featured psychologist in the “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” show before the pandemic.
Dr. Salonga though retired in 2018, is still in active service with CEU, became consultant for Student Services for CEU Malolos, Professional School Counselor at CEU Las Pinas, and became also a consultant in Sacred Heart Academy, Pasig City. Dr. Salonga received Special Citation from the Professional Regulation Commission and the Professional Regulatory Board of Guidance & Counseling in 2015, for her exemplary professional, social and civic contributions to the society and the profession of Guidance & Counseling. She was also awarded Certificate of Attainment by the Australian Counseling Association on Professional Supervision in 2018. Had special training on Cognitive Behavior Therapy at the Beck’s Institute in Philadelphia, USA in 2019. Also, completed CHED’s training on Universal Prevention Curriculum for Substance Use in 2020.
She is currently a member of the Board of the Philippine Guidance & Counseling Association and the Philippine Mental Health Association. She became an active BOARD member of the Psychological Association of the Philippines for 14 years. In addition, Dr. Salonga is also an active member of the Our Lady of Grace Parish Magnificat Chorale (Grace Park, Caloocan City) since 1977. She was part of the creation of the Parish Music Ministry in Our Lady of Grace Parish, Caloocan City. Dr. Salonga is currently a training consultant at the National Center for Mental Health and Consultant at V-Psyche Innovative Solutions.
